EFCC releases Willie Obiano, seizes passport

Former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has left the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Obiano spent six days with the EFCC after he was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on his way to the United States.

Obiano was picked up a day after he handed over to Professor Charles Soludo as the new governor of Anambra State.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, told newsmen that Obiano was released on bail, but said his international passport was still with the agency as part of the bail conditions.

The EFCC accused Obiano of taking forty-two billion naira meant for the Sure-P programme and Security Vote to fund political activities in Anambra State.
