Governor Ortom visits president Buhari, as military go after militia herdsmen in Benue forest

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

Governor Ortom’s visit comes three days after surviving an attempted assassination last Saturday at his farm, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Before the meeting, President Buhari had ordered a thorough investigation of the attack on Governor Ortom’s convoy.

After the meeting; Governor Ortom told State House Correspondents that there was need to secure the country.

Ortom also said it was important to do what was lawful to protect the interest of the Nigerian Constitution.

Governor Ortom also cautioned against making the gun attack on his convoy as a political issue.

Meanwhile; the Nigerian Military has increased its operations around Benue State following the gun attack on the convoy of Governor Samuel Ortom last Saturday.

This was confirmed by the Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Adeyemi Yekini, while briefing newsmen at the scene of the attack on Governor Ortom.

Major General Yekini said with increased patrol by his men, they would be able to check the activities of militia herdsmen and other criminals operating in the forest across the River Benue.

The Operation’s Commander also confirmed that troops have destroyed some makeshift camps of the militia herdsmen.
