Governor Oyetola Faults FG’S community policing initiative

Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has said that Nigeria needs state policing to effectively tackle the problem of insecurity in the country.

Governor Oyetola said current efforts being made by the Federal Government to promote community policing through the Nigeria Police Force is not good enough.

Governor Oyetola observed that the fact that the police is still controlled from Abuja is the weakness of the Federal Government’s Community Police.

He said traced the weakness of State Governors and Chief Security Officers to the constitutional provision that did not given them the power to control security agencies in their states.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola made the observation in a presentation at an event organized by the Sultan Maccido Institute for Peace, Leadership and Development Studies of the University of Abuja.
