Governor Sanwo calls for Peace Walk as part of EndSARS healing

Lags Sate Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has addressed the people of the state in a televised broadcast, ahead of the release of the whitepaper on the report of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of Police Brutality and Other Related Matters.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the final decisions of the government would be based on law, evidence, and truth, without heating up the system.

Sanwo-Olu said his desire is for all stakeholders to learn lessons from the EndSARS protests of last year, particularly the incident that happened at the Lekki Tollgate on the night of October 20, 2020.

He called on all stakeholders in the state, especially the young people, to join his peace walk to signal a new beginning after the EndSARS violence of last October.

Going forward; Governor Sanwo-Olu said the government would ensure better communication between the youth and security agencies, and initiate a platform for the complaints of right violations by security operatives.

The Governor said his administration would also ensure better coordination between government and security agencies, and improved security policy formulation.

Sanwo-Olu assured that a system would be put in place to ensure that all victims with legitimate claim of losses during the EndSARS protest violence is duly compensated.

Recall that the Lagos State Government has already paid out over four hundred million naira to victims of police brutality based on the recommendations of the EndSARS Panel.
