Henrietta H Fore has resigned as the Executive Director of the United Nations Children Fund.
Fore confirmed in a statement that she had informed the UN Secretary-General and UNICEF Executive Board President of her decision, saying she intends to devote her energy to her husband’s serious health issue.
Part of the statement reads: “To serve the world’s children is both exhilarating and fascinating. I am proud of the @UNICEF team. We have achieved remarkable accomplishments at an extraordinary time, and there is so much more to do. I will remain as UNICEF Executive Director until my successor is appointed.
“We will continue to dedicate our focus and efforts to help countries access and roll out vaccines so that children can access services and return safely to schools, and further accelerate our work in humanitarian and development contexts to ensure a bright future #ForEveryChild.”
