Imo Attacks: Abia State imposes nighttime curfew

The Abia State Government has imposed an indefinite nighttime curfew across the state, from 10PM to 6AM daily.

The declaration by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu.

According to the statement, the Abia State government took the decision due to negative security reports from multiple sources.

The Commissioner noted that security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure strict enforcement and compliance with the curfew.

John Okiyi Kalu said traditional rulers, as well as officials of the Abia State Homeland Security Team and Community Vigilante Services are to monitor the movement of persons within their respective domains.

Okiyi Kalu said they are to take necessary measures to protect the people and their property, while only those on essential services, and with proper identification, are exempted from the curfew.

Furthermore; the Information Commissioner said all law abiding citizens are advised to go about their normal duties, outside the curfew period, without fear of molestation.
