INEC reminds political parties of 2023 election guidelines

The Independent National Electoral Commission says preparations for the 2023 general election has entered the next phase, which is the conduct of primaries by political parties.

INEC says part of the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Election Guidelines is for party primaries to be conducted within sixty days, between April 4 and June 3 this year.

INEC, has therefore, reminded the parties that the conduct of their primaries must follow provisions of Sections 29 and 84 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The Commission says primaries must be conducted within the various constituencies, warning that any primary outside the constituency would be a violation of the Electoral Act.

INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, made the announcement in a statement.

Okoye warned that any political party that fails to follow provisions of the Electoral Act would have their candidates disqualified from contesting the elections.
