INEC talks tough against police parties over violent congresses

As political parties begin preparations for the 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has reminded them about the need to follow the rules.

INEC has also threatened to blacklist political parties that record violence during their congresses, leading to the destruction of INEC property and attack on its personnel on supervisory duties.

The warning was contained in a statement by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the commission’s committee on Information and Vote Education, Festus Okoye.

The INEC Commissioner reminded political parties that they have a duty to ensure that their congresses and conventions are orderly, democratic and in accordance with the law, party guidelines, and INEC regulations.
