Lagos Sars Panel gets three months’ extension

The sitting of the Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters has been extended by three months.

The Judicial Panel chaired by retired Justice Doris Okuwobi was initially given six months to complete its assignment, which was meant to end on April 19.

However; with the additional three months, Justice OKUWOBI and members of the Judicial Panel now have until July 19 to complete their work.

Recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on October 19, 2020, inaugurated the Judicial Panel to look into complaints behind the EndSARS protest in October last year.

So far, the Judicial Panel has received two hundred and thirty-five petitions and has sat for sixty-five times, during which it has heard one hundred and fifteen cases.

The Judicial Panel has also concluded some of the cases and awarded forty-four-million-naira compensation to some petitioners.
