Lagos State declares 4th wave of Covid-19 pandemic

The Lagos State Government has declared a fourth wave of Covid-19, with positive test rate said to be at six percent, as against less than zero in the middle of November.

The declaration by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is contained in a copy of a media briefing obtained by Lasgidi FM News Desk.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said analysis by the state government shows that the fourth wave was brought by the failure to observe laid down protocols to check the spread of the pandemic.

Sanwo-Olu also used the opportunity to appeal to everyone to get vaccinated and join hands with the state government in managing the pandemic, as the festive season begins.

He said the state government was ready to begin enforcing new guidelines, including travel rules, approved by the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19.

The Governor said the state government would prosecute travellers who arrive in Lagos and fail to submit themselves for mandatory tests.

In addition, the governor said all foreigners who fail to obey the rules would be subject to possible deportation.

He reminded members of the public that the Lagos State Government was still offering free Covid-19 testing at all its public facilities for those who fit into the case definition.
