Nigeria gets first batch of Covid-19 vaccines

All is now set for the Federal Government to begin the vaccination of Nigerians against Covid-19.

This is because the first batch of nearly four million doses of Oxford-Astrazena vaccine has arrived in Abuja.

The vaccine doses were supplied to Nigeria through the Covax initiative of the World Health Organization.

Those who were on ground to receive the vaccine include the Secretary to Government, Boss Mustapha, and the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine was made in India and approved by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhay Thakur, joined Federal Government officials to receive the vaccines at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Meanwhile; the United Nations Office in Nigeria described the feat as a historic step towards the goal of equal distribution of Covid-19 vaccines across the world.

UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, said the UN Country Team in Nigeria will continue to support the vaccination campaign in Nigeria and help contain the spread of the virus.
