Nigeria ranks low on Global Peace Index, due to raging violence

The Global Peace Index has ranked Nigeria as the eighth least peaceful country in Africa, and the one hundred and forty-sixth in the world.

The 2021 Global Peace ranked Nigeria among one hundred and sixty-three independent nations and territories around the world.

The ranking shows that Nigeria moved one step from one hundred and forty-seven in 2020, but maintained its eighth position in Africa, as of the previous year.

The report says Nigeria is only more peaceful than South Sudan, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya, Central African Republic, Sudan and Mali.

According to the Global Peace Index released yesterday, Nigeria gained two thousand, seven hundred and twelve points, and was graded low.

The report was compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, which measures the state of peace in countries.

The ranking is done on the bases of societal safety and security, extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict, and the degree of militarisation.
