Nnamdi Kanu seeks five billion naira in damages over his arrest

The legal battle for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has shifted to the Abia State High Court.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimofor, approached the court sitting in Umuahia with a fundamental rights enforcement lawsuit, seeking his release from the custody of the Department of State Service on health grounds.

Ejimofor also asked the court to order that Kanu be returned to Kenya, where he is believed to have been arrested, for onward return to the United Kingdom who he lives.

He is also demanding an apology from the federal government and five billion naira in damages for the violation of Kanu’s fundamental human rights.

However, the presiding judge, Justice K. C. J Okereke, approved an order for the respondents to be put on notice of the case, and for them to be served the court papers through substituted means.
