Northern security stakeholders meeting; Buhari rules out amnesty for bandits

President Muhammadu Buhari has ruled out amnesty for bandits, insurgents and other criminal gangs that have been terrorizing different parts of the country.

President Buhari declared that they shall all be treated as criminals for the killing and kidnapping of innocent Nigerians.

The position of the President was made known by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, during a meeting in Kaduna with governors of the nineteen northern states and other stakeholders.

The security stakeholders meeting was also attended by traditional rulers in the region, who were led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar III.

At the end of the meeting, the governors of the northern states agreed to work with the Federal Government in tackling the challenges of insecurity in the country.

In another development; Christian clerics in the northern part of Nigeria have called on the United Nations to help prevent a full-blown war in the country.

The call was made at a news conference in Jos, Plateau State, by the Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors Association.

The Chairman of the association, Reverend Luke Shehu, complained about failure by government to deal with injustice in the country.

In a separate statement, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Samuel Ayokunle, claimed that states with high Christian population in the North have been facing severe persecution in the past six years.
