Obasanjo denies planning new political party

Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has denied planning to launch a new political party.

Obasanjo maintains that he is done with partisan politics, after two terms as elected civilian president, and military head of state.

In a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi; Obasanjo suggested that those who reported that he was planning to form a new party need to have their heads examined.

According to the statement, Akinyemi noted that the former president traveled to Afghanistan on the invitation of the country’s president, Ashraf Ghani.

The spokesman advised those who are trying to use the back door to force Obasanjo to return to partisan politics to respect his choice to remain a non-partisan statesman.

He said the former President will continue to perform his role as a statesman who is focused on providing advice, support, or solutions wherever possible in Nigeria, Africa, and the world.

Kehinde Akinyemi said that even if Obasanjo decides to identify with any political party, it would be the party of Nigerians who are facing insecurity, unemployment, hunger, poverty, and various other challenging issues.
