Ondo Guber candidates sign peace accord

Parties involved in the Ondo State governorship election have signed a peace agreement ahead of the poll on Saturday.

Governor ROTIMI AKEREDOLU signed on behalf of the ruling All Progressives Congress, while EYITAYO JEGEDE of the People’s Democratic Party signed on behalf of his party.

Ondo State Deputy Governor and candidate of the ZENITH LABOUR PARTY, AGBOOLA AJAYI, also signed for his party.

The peace accord was made possible by the National Peace Committee, together with the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In his remarks; INEC Chairman, Professor MAHMOOD YAKUBU, said that without peace, efforts to ensure that the election is credible would not produce the right result.

Some members of the National Peace Committee, including the Sultan of Sokoto, ABUKABAR SAA’D; Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, HASSAN KUKAH; and former Bishop of Abuja Diocese, JOHN ONAIYEKAN, were also present at the event in Akure.

Meanwhile; the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, EYITAYO JEGEDE, has been adopted by seventeen political parties, five days to the election.

Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Prince OLADELE OGUNBAMERU said his party, as well as Accord, AA, ADP, AAC, APGA, APM, APP, NNPP, NRM, and YPP are involved in the adoption.
