Police handover DCP Abba Kyari to NDLEA for drugs offences

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has been arrested and handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency.

DCP Abba Kyari was detained hours after the NDLEA declared him wanted for alleged links to a drugs cartel and illegal drugs deals.

NDLEA Spokesman, Femi Babafemi announced at a news briefing in Abuja that the agency obtained evidence linking DCP KYARI to a drug gang that operates form Brazil, Ethiopia, and Nigeria.

Babafemi alleged that DCP Kyari was involved in the negotiation of a bribe for the release of twenty-five kilograms of cocaine that was seized by NDLEA operatives in January this year.

Speaking further; the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said DCP Abba Kyari failed to honour an invitation from the agency on February 10, 2022 to answer some questions.

Meanwhile; the Nigeria Police Force has asked the leadership of the NDLEA to arrest its officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu who are allegedly working for a drug cartel.

The demand of the Police High Command was contained in a statement by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in which he also confirmed the arrest of DCP Abba Kyari and four other members of the Intelligence Response Team.

The others are ACP Sunday Ubuah, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agrigba and John Nuhu, as well as ASP John Umoru, who is on the run.

The Chief Superintendent of Police said two drug couriers who were arrested in Enugu alleged that they have been enjoying good relationship with NDLEA officers at the Enugu airport since 2021.

The police spokesman alleged that the NDLEA officers usually receive information about the drug carriers, including photographs, so as not to arrest them when they arrive at the airport.
