President Buhari approves Steering Committee on Petroleum Industry Act

has kicked off implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, with the setting of a steering committee for the assignment.

The Committee is headed by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, and it is expected to complete its assignment in twelve months.

Other members of the steering committee include the Permanent Secretary in the, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the NNPC Group Managing Director, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning are also expected to appoint representatives to join the committee.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Natural Resources, Olufemi Lijadu, will serve as External Legal Adviser, while the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund is the secretary.

Speaking at a meeting with leaders of the National Assembly, President Buhari said the job of the steering committee is to ensure the expected change in the petroleum industry as provided in the Petroleum Industry Act.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen at the event in Abuja, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmed Lawan, said there was need to ensure full implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act.
