President buhari faces criticism over IGP Adamu’s 3-month extension

The three-month extension of the appointment of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has been rejected by some Nigerians.

Senior lawyers, including Mike Ozekhome, said there was no reason to support the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ozekhome , who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said IGP Adamu has put in the required number of years in service and should be allowed to go.

Mike Ozekhome maintained that Mohammed Adamu is no longer recognized as the Inspector General of Police in the face of the law.

On his part; another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, also argued that the country presently does not have an Inspector General of Police.

In a statement; Adegboruwa said the President cannot appoint an IGP or extend the tenure of a retired IGP without the advice of the Nigeria Police Council.

However; the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Daginyadi, told State House correspondents in Abuja that the extension of the appointment of the IGP is to allow for a smooth handover.
