President Buhari travels to UK for medical checkup

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to travel to London, in the United Kingdom, later today.

President Buhari is meant to visit his overseas doctors for a routine medical checkup, and he is not expected back home until the second week of April.

Before taking off to London, President Buhari would hold a meeting with the Security Chiefs this morning.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed the President’s travel plan in a statement.

The last time President BUHARI traveled out of the country was in February last year, when he paid a working visit to Ethiopia, just before the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Since then, President Buhari has remained within the Presidential Villa in Abuja, except on few occasions when he visited his country home in Daura, Katsina State.

Meanwhile; President Muhammadu Buhari has held a meeting with presiding officers of the National Assembly at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, ahead of his trip to the United Kingdom.

President Buhari’s meeting with the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was done behind closed-doors.

After the meeting, both Senator Lawan and Speaker Gbajabiamila, told State House correspondents that they discussed issues of serious national concern, including security and Covid-19 vaccination.

President Buhari also held a meeting yesterday with; Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi.

After the meeting, says military action alone will not end banditry and kidnapping in parts of the country.

Governor Fayemi later said those engaged in banditry and kidnapping are using the money they make to fund the Islamist insurgency in the Northeast.
