Protesting Ijaw youths block East-West Road, NDDC Hqtrs

Members of Ijaw Youths Council on Thursday, May 27, 2021, disrupted activities at the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The IYC protesters want the Federal Government to reconstitute the board of the NDDC to replace the Interim Management Committee.

Hundreds of IYC protesters blocked the Eastern Bypass in Port Harcourt, where the NDDC headquarters is located, thereby making it difficult for people to drive in or out.

The leader of the group and Assistant Secretary of the Eastern Zone of IYC, ibiso harry, said they took the action following the expiration of their deadline to the Federal Government.

Meanwhile; the IYC President, Peter Igbifa, has been speaking with newsmen how he was abducted by some unknown persons in Obiri-Ikwere area of Port Harcourt.

Igbifa also led another group of IYC members for a protest on the East-West Road, during which they blocked the road and brought the movement of vehicles to a halt.

Meanwhile; the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has appealed to the Ijaw youths to be patient with the government to meet their demands.
