Reps calls for suspension of 2021 census

The House of Representatives has called for a postponement of the population and housing census, which the National Population Commission plans to carry out this year.

The federal lawmakers in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly made the call because of the security situation across the country.

In adopting a motion of urgent national importance moved by Shehu Beji of Bosso/Paikoro Federal Constituency of Niger State, the lawmakers feared that many parts of the country may not be covered by enumerators.

Particularly; Representative Beji said it would be difficult to guarantee the safety of census enumerators to ensure that they cover all parts of the country that are affected by insecurity and other crises.
