Rivers State Governor drops immunity to testify in court

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday dropped his constitutional immunity to testify before a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.

The case in which Governor Wike testified is a seven-billion-naira libel lawsuit he filed against THISDAY Newspaper.

Governor Wike told the court that he wants to clear his name over an allegation that he was a deceitful and untrustworthy person, who goes underground to influence judicial matters.

The Governor filed the lawsuit in August 2020 following a story that was published on June 23, 2020.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, indicates that the defendants include Davidson Iriekpan, Chuks Okocha and Adibe Emenyonu.
