Rochas Okorocha’s absence stalls arraignment in N5.7bn fraud case

The arraignment of a former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha for allegedly diverting two point nine billion naira was today stalled at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Okorocha who currently represents Imo West at the Senate was absent in court and was also not represented by any legal practitioner.

However, six other defendants billed to be arraigned along with him were in court with their lawyers.

Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Cosmos Ugwu told Justice Inyang Ekwo that the former Imo State Governor had been avoiding service of the criminal charges on him as required by law.

He said that the entourage of security operatives surrounding the Senator have made it impossible for Okorocha to be served in person by court officials

Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter until March 28 for arraignment.
