Security Chiefs meet with northwest stakeholders

Nigeria’s security chiefs have held a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the Northwest.

Governors of the seven Northwest states also attended the meeting, as part of efforts to tackle the security challenges in the region.

They were joined by the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong.

The National Security Adviser, retired Major-General Babagana Monguno, led the Federal Government delegation to the meeting.

Leading Islamic cleric, Ahmed Gumi, who was recently involved in an attempt to negotiate with armed bandits, also addressed the security town hall meeting.

Meanwhile; the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, says failure by government to take action against armed herders is responsible for the worsening security crisis in Nigeria.

Senator Abaribe gave this indication while responding to questions on a television programme monitored in Lagos.

The PDP Senator from Abia State challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to speak out against the criminal herders.
