The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the deployment of the Police Intervention and Stabilization Forces to Oyo State.

The Force spokesman, Frank Mbah, said the special forces include four units of the Police Mobile Force and operatives from the Force Intelligence Bureau, as well as a surveillance police helicopter.

Mbah, who is a Commissioner of Police, said the Intervention Force is being coordinated by Deputy Inspector General of Police, D.I.G David Folawiyo.

He said the move is to help reclaim the public space, reinforce security and boost public confidence in the areas affected by the violent crisis over the weekend.

Meanwhile; the Oyo State Government has cautioned those who are giving out numbers of victims of the violent clashes in Shasha area of Ibadan over the weekend.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Fatai Awoseni, said now was not the right time to be giving out numbers of victims.

Fatai Awoseni said information from traders at the burnt market indicate that those who caused the problem are the foreigners among them.

Awoseni, who is a retired Commissioner of Police, said the violence at Shasha Market in Ibadan started from a quarrel between a shop owner and a cart pusher.
