The Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Paul Emeziem has been impeached.
Emeziem was impeached by 19 lawmakers out of a total of 27 lawmakers, during a plenary session at the State House of Assembly in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The 19 lawmakers were said to have signed a letter containing their decision to impeach Emeziem which was read on the floor of the house.
According to the lawmakers, the speaker was impeached on allegations of gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office and high handedness.
Kennedy Ibe who is a member representing Obowu constituency, has emerged as new speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.
