Abduction of Kagara schoolboys in Niger State triggers national outcry

The Senate has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on security across the nation.

The Senate made the call following the adoption of a motion condemning the abduction of students and teachers of Government Science Secondary School, in Kagara, Niger State.

The motion was moved under matters of urgent public importance by Senator Mohammed Sani Musa of Niger East.

Meanwhile; President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a team of security chiefs to Niger State following the attack on the Government Science Secondary School, Kagara.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said President BUHARI has also charged the security agencies to go after the bandits, arrest them, and rescue the victims.

In a statement circulated to the media, Shehu said President Buhari described the attack on the Kagara school as brazen and cowardly.

In a related development; Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State has ordered the closure of all boarding schools in Rafi, Mariga, Munya and Shiroro local government areas.

Governor Abubakar Bello also confirmed during a media briefing in the state capital, Minna, that one of the students of the Kagara school, identified as Benjamin Doma, was shot dead in the attack.

Reports say at least twenty-seven students, three members of staff, and twelve others were taken away by the bandits who attacked the school in the early hours of today.

The Principal of GSSS Kagara and some students who escaped the attack have also shared their experiences with newsmen.
