The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has backed the demand for the autonomy of state legislature and the judiciary.

Abubakar Malami maintained that the issue of financial autonomy of state judiciary and legislature is a settled matter.

Malami backed his position with the last amendment of the 1999 Constitution and the Executive Order Ten issued by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister was speaking during the commissioning the re-modelled Sokoto State High Court complex.

He also announced the Federal Government’s plan to introduce an improved salary package and conditions of service for judges.

The Minister said the new salary package was part of efforts to encourage the Judiciary to perform its duties effectively.

Malami noted the Judiciary remains a strong force for the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.
