The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of an officer and six soldiers in an attack in Mainok, Borno State.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, confirmed in a statement that the soldiers were attacked by insurgents.

The Army spokesman said five other soldiers who sustained various degrees of injuries have been evacuated to the military medical facility for treatment.

However; another report claims the soldiers were killed in a friendly airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force on Sunday, after the Air Force was called in for support to counter an invasion by Boko Haram terrorists.

Meanwhile; the Nigerian Air Force has launched an investigation into the alleged killing of soldiers in airstrikes in Mainok, Borno State.

The investigation is in response to a trending online video of a soldier claiming that the incident happened.

Unnamed sources claimed that the Air Force intervened with aerial fire following an attack by insurgents on a military base in Mainok.

In a statement on its Twitter page; the Nigerian Air Force promised to inform the general public of the outcome of its investigation.

In another development; Boko Haram terrorists have invaded some communities in Niger State, and forced over three hundred inhabitants to flee their homes.

Governor Abubakar Bello personally confirmed the development while briefing newsmen after visiting the displaced persons.
