Atiku faults $1.5B for repairs of Port Harcourt refinery

The approval of one-point-five billion US dollars for the renovation of the Port Harcourt Refinery is not going down well with some Nigerians.

Those who have criticized the decision of the Federal Executive Council include former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar.

Abubakar said at a time that the Nigerian economy was struggling, government needs to be wise and act responsibly in the use of available resources.

The former Vice President noted that the local refineries have been operating at a loss for several years, and the decision to pump in huge amount of money for repairs is questionable.

Atiku Abubakar said the maintenance cost for Port Harcourt refinery is far higher that the value of a more profitable refinery in the US, which Shell sold for one-point-two billion dollars.
