Bamise’s Murder: Lagos State Government arraigns BRT driver

The Lagos State Government has arraigned the driver of a Bus Rapid Transport Andrew Nice Omininikoron before the State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square.

He was arraigned on a four-count bordering on rape, conspiracy and murder of his passenger, Oluwabamise Ayanwola.

The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution DPP, Jide Martins, told Justice Sherifat Sonaike that the defendant allegedly raped a twenty-nine-year-old lady, Nneka Maryjane Ozezulu without her consent on November 25, 2021.

The DPP also told the court that Andrew Nice conspired with others now at large and forcefully had sexual intercourse with his twenty-two-year-old passenger, Oluwabamise Ayanwola, without her consent after which he murdered her.

Omininikoron pleaded not guilty to the charge when all the counts were read to him.

The DPP then asked the court to order a further remand of the defendant at the Ikoyi prison following his plea.

The court ordered that the defendant should be further remanded at the Ikoyi prison after his defence counsel, Isaac Ezeawem raised no objections.

Justice Sonaike subsequently adjourned the case to May nine, ten and eleven, 2022 for commencement of trial.
