Banker Tony Elumelu laments hardship in Nigeria

Leading Nigerian banker, Tony Elumelu, has complained about the level of hardship being experienced by Nigerians.

Elumelu lamented that things are getting worse and worse, with no electrify for five days, increasing prices of petrol and diesel, and frightening cost of food, among others.

He said listening to his colleagues at the office about issues that they face every day, he wondered why up to ninety percent citizens of the country that is so blessed would have to suffer like Nigerians are currently doing.

In a statement on his official Twitter handle, Tony Elumelu said he had often said that access to electricity was critical for Nigeria’s development and easing of poverty in the country.

He said businesses are suffering; government is losing over ninety percent of oil production to thieves, as can be seen in the sharp drop in crude oil production at the Bonny Terminal.

Tony Elumelu also wandered why citizens and businesses are paying taxes if Nigeria’s security agencies cannot stop the negative trends.

Elumelu said as the country prepares for the next general election, security and management of resources should be top on the agenda.
