Bread prices rise in some parts of Lagos

Bread prices have gone up in some parts of Lagos, especially at shopping malls in the highbrow areas of Victoria Island and Lekki.

This comes just as the Premium Bread-Makers Association of Nigeria announced that its members will be increasing prices to meet up with high cost of energy and foreign exchange.

Lasgidi FM’s Najite Atirene spoke with Ugochukwu Ebubeogu, who is the manager of a shopping mall in Victoria Island, and he confirmed that they had increased the prices of bread already.

Ugochukwu Ebubeogu said the cost of baking flour had risen from twenty-one thousand naira to thirty thousand naira, in addition to high cost of other condiments.

Also speaking in a telephone interview with our reporter, Elizabeth Akpokodje-Olori said she had closed her bakery in Warri, Delta State due to the high cost of running the business.

Akpokodje-Olori complained that even after bakers agree to increase prices, the difficulty in enforcing the common price does not help the business to make profit.
