EFCC uncovers human organs syndicate operating in Port Harcourt

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have uncovered a gang that is involved in the buying and selling of human organs in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

EFCC operatives also arrested a suspect, identified as John Emeka Ukaeje, who is alleged to be the leader of the gang, which allegedly has foreign connections.

In a statement on its website; the EFCC alleged that Ukaeje conduct his illegal business with fake names as Dr. Phil Mark, Dr. Donald Phillip, and Dr. Wesley David.

The anti-graft agency said Ukaeje was Arrested on April 16, 2021 at Rumukparali, in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It further revealed that Ukaeje and members of his gang are fraudsters who falsely present themselves as medical doctors, and operate a human organ bank, for the sale and purchase kidneys.

The EFCC said victims of the criminal gang include people with renal disease and even healthy people who offer to sell their organs in Nigeria; India; Pakistan; Indonesia and the United Arab Emirate.
