Extremist comments; Wike advised Pantami to resign

The Federal Government continues to face criticism over the handling of the controversial extremist comments by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, condemned the alleged affiliation of Pantami with Taliban and Al-Qaeda terrorist groups.

In a message on his Twitter page, Governor Wike said no reasonable government would allow a person with the issues involving Pantami to remain in its cabinet.

Wike said the Minister should ordinarily have removed himself from office immediately but expressed doubt that the current government would allow that to happen.

Similarly; a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services, Dennis Amachree, has said the Federal Government was aware of the extremist past of the Communication Minister.

Amachree claimed that the DSS had informed the Government and the National Assembly of the past radical pro-Taliban views of the embattled Minister before the confirmation of his appointment in 2019.
