Federal Government threatens to review relationship with Indonesia

The Federal Government has threatened to review diplomatic relations with Indonesia because of an assault on a Nigerian diplomat by immigration officials in Jakarta.

The unnamed diplomat was seen in an online video as he was being manhandled by Indonesian officials in front of his official residence on Saturday.

In the video, the Nigerian diplomat can be heard screaming, as he was pinned down inside a vehicle by two Indonesian men, as a third man assaulted his unprotected head.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the action and summoned the Indonesian ambassador for explanation.

Briefing a news conference in Abuja, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said the Federal Government wants Indonesia to identify and bring the immigration officials behind the assault to book.
