Federal government uncovers suspected terrorism financiers

The Federal Government says it now knows ninety-six people who are funding terrorism across Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said four hundred and twenty-four associates and supporters of the financiers have also been uncovered.

Lai Mohammed said the financiers and their associates were identified by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit between 2020 and 2021.

Mohammed said they include one hundred and twenty-three companies and thirty-three foreign exchange operators.

He said the companies and foreign exchange operators are alleged to be linked to twenty-six suspected terrorists, bandits and kidnappers.

The Minister made the revelation during a media briefing in Abuja on the government’s fight against corruption.

He said forty-five of the suspects have been arrested and would soon be charged to court, in addition to the seizure of their assets.
