Fresh money laundering trial of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu resumes

The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, ORJI UZOR KALU, is set to return to court on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, for a fresh trial over alleged seven point one-billion-naira money laundering charges.

The fresh arraignment of Senator ORJI UZOR KALU will take place before Justice INYANG EKWO of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The charges are related to crimes Senator KALU is alleged to have committed while serving as the governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007.

Recall that the Federal High Court in Lagos had on December 5, 2019, convicted Senator KALU of the same charges and jailed him for twelve years.

However; the Supreme Court in May last year nullified that judgement and ordered a fresh trial on the ground that Justice MOHAMMED IDRIS who handled the case had been promoted to the Court of Appeal when he delivered the judgment.
