Gunshots at Imo State Assembly, as Speaker suspends 6 lawmakers

Violence erupted at the Imo State House of Assembly complex on Thursday, with gunshots fired within the premises, after six members were suspended.

The Speaker of the House, Paul Emeziem, approved the suspension of the lawmakers including the Chief Whip, Authur Egwim.

Speaker Emeziem claimed that the Chief Whip and the five others – four from APC and two from PDP – conducted themselves in a manner that is not acceptable from parliamentarians.

The Speaker also ordered the dissolution of all standing committees of the House; a decision which did not go down well with other lawmakers.
