Nigerian workers protest decentralisation of minimum wage

The organized labour in Nigeria has kept its promise to hold a nationwide protest today against the attempt to remove minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative List.

The protesters, who were mobilized by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, marched to the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, who led the protest, demanded to know why the elected officials are not thinking about making laws to regulate their own earnings.

The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator SABI ABDULLAHI, was on ground to address the labour protesters, but they refused to listen to him.

The Minimum Wage protest also happened at the same time in other parts of Nigeria, including Lagos State, where the NLC Chairman, Agnes Funmi Sessi, led the march to the State House of Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja.

The bill seeking the transfer of Minimum Wage to the Concurrent Legislative List was introduced by a member of the House of Representatives, Garba Mohammed.
