The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress is holding a meeting today to discuss the proposed increase of the price of petrol to as high as four hundred and eight naira per litre.
The proposal was made by a committee of the Nigeria Governors Forum, as part of moves to remove the payment of petrol subsidy
The recommendation by the state governors has been greeted with criticism from Nigerians across the country, who are concerned that it could worsen the hardship already being faced by the people.
Institutions such as the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry have also advised the Federal Government to avoid rushing to completely remove petrol subsidy.
The LCCI Director-General, Muda Yusuf, said government should consider the effects of moving from subsidy to a free market for petrol, and ensure to carry everyone along.
