PDP governors and presidential aspirants begin nationwide consultations

Chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party have been going round the country for discussions on how to arrive at a consensus presidential candidate for the 2023 general election.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who recently declared his interest for the number one job in Nigeria, was in Minna, Niger State yesterday.

Governor Wike held a meeting with former military heads of state, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Wike was accompanied by the governors of Abia, Enugu, and Oyo states, as well as some members of PDP in the National Assembly.

After their meeting, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State told reporters that they discussed issues concerning the unity of Nigeria.

Elsewhere; Governor Ifeanyi Okowa hosted four PDP presidential aspirants in Asaba, Delta State, including Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Senator Bukola Saraki.

In a statement confirming the meeting on his Twitter handle, Governor Okowa said they were working to promote the unity within the PDP by pushing for a consensus candidate.

The People’s Democratic is expected to make a decision on how to zone positions in the 2023 general elections.

However, a chieftain of the party, Chief Dan Ulasi, has advised the PDP against zoning its presidential ticket.

Chief Ulasi warned that zoning may cause divisions within the PDP and spoil the chances of the party to return to power.

Ulasi, who hails from Anambra State, shared his views in a television interview monitored in Lagos.

On the chances of the Southeast to produce the next president of Nigeria, Chief Dan Ulasi said that was not going to happen in 2023.

Dan Ulasi criticized some of the leading Southeast presidential aspirants for not doing enough to drive home their campaign.

Dan Ulasi said former governor Peter Obi does not show seriousness for identifying with the campaign of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

On Kingsley Moghalu, Chief Ulasi reminded him that he has to do more than just campaigning on television.
