Police target trouble-makers in Edo and Ondo; As Benin Monarch chides rival politicians

Political leaders in Edo State have attended a peace meeting at the Palace of the Oba of Benin.

The meeting was summoned by the Benin Monarch, as Edo people prepare for governorship election on September 19, 2020.

During the meeting; Oba Ewuare II advised the political leaders to behave like former President of Nigeria, GOODLUCK JONATHAN.

The Oba of Benin recalled how JONATHAN called to congratulate current President MUHAMMADU BUHARI when he lost the 2015 presidential election.

In his response; Governor OBASEKI, who is contesting for a second term, pledged his commitment to a peaceful election.

On his part; the APC governorship candidate, OSAGIE IZE-IYAMU, promised to take the message of peace to his supporters.

Two former National Chairmen of the APC, ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE and JOHN ODIGIE-OYEGUN, were also at the peace meeting in Benin City.

Meanwhile; the Police High Command has said that the politicians in Edo and Ondo states are stockpiling arms ahead of the governorship election.

Force Public Relations Officer, FRANK MBAH, also said comments by the political leaders in Edo State are capable of inciting violence.

DCP MBAH said the police would be making some targeted arrest of those who pose threat to the peaceful conduct of the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states in the coming days.
