President Buhari flags off construction of rail line from Nigeria to Niger Republic

Work has formally started on the rail line linking Nigeria’s northern city of Kano with Maradi town, in Niger Republic.

The rail project, which is to cost over 1.9 billion dollars, is expected to cut across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina in the north.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the project was held in Katsina State, while President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the gathering through a video link from Abuja.

President Buhari also announced other rail projects that his administration plan to begin before he leaves office in May, 2023.

In his remarks; Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, thanked President Buhari for what he called a landmark project.

Governor Ganduje also described Kano State as the greatest beneficiary of the Buhari Administration.
