Surge in Lagos slum population linked to violent crisis in north

It has been revealed that insurgency and banditry in the northern parts of Nigeria are forcing young people to leave the area for cities in the southern part of the country.

A large population of those displaced by the violence in the North are young people, who were mostly engaged in farming in their villages.

They include Daniel Ngama from Adamawa State, who now works as a dispatch rider, and lives in the Marwa slum in Lekki area of Lagos.

Another man who hails from Benue State also spoke with Lasgidi FM’s Chukwuemeka Obioma on how insecurity has stopped people from farming in his community.

With the demolition of illegal structures around the Marwa area of Lekki, some of the displaced persons say they have no place to go.
