U.S. begins building new consulate campus in Eko Atlantic City

The United States government has started the building a new consulate at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos State.

The cost of the building is put at five hundred and thirty-seven million dollars, out of which ninety-five million dollars is expected to go directly to the local community.

Also, during the construction of the ten-storey building, it is expected that about two thousand, five hundred Nigerians would be engaged in direct jobs over the next five years.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, joined top officials of the US Mission in Nigeria at the groundbreaking ceremony at the Eko Atlantic City.

US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, said the building of the new consulate would further strengthen the relations between Nigeria and her country.

On her part, the US Consul General, Claire Pierangelo, said the huge size of the new consulate building is a reflection of the number of Nigerians who visit the United States yearly.

Meanwhile; Senior Architect Minh Le of the US Overseas Building Operations said the design of the ten-storey building was done in partnership with the University of Lagos.
