UK sanctions 5 Russian banks over recognition of Ukrainian separatist regions

The United Kingdom has slammed sanctions against five Russian banks and three wealthy individuals over the military action in Ukraine.

In an address in Parliament; the Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the resolve of the UK to defend its NATO allies is absolute and immovable.

The announcement by the Prime Minister comes just as the European Union published its proposed sanctions against Russia.

The EU sanctions are targeted at anyone involved in the decision, including three hundred and fifty-one members of Russia’s parliament.

Also, banks that are financing Russia’s military and other operations in the breakaway territories are also covered in the sanctions.

However; all twenty-seven member states of the EU have to agree on the proposed sanctions before they can be enforced.
