Vat War: Presidency cautions states, as Lagos lawmaker defends new law

The Presidency has faulted the approach being adopted by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in the disagreement over the collection of Value Added Tax.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, who is also from Rivers State, says Governor Wike is being aggressive and looking at the matter from a tribal point of view.

Ajuri Ngelale said it was not true that the Federal Government has been taking the money made from the oil-rich Niger Delta to the northern Nigeria.

Meanwhile; there appears to be no going back on the enforcement of the Lagos State Value Added Tax Law, which Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed last week.

Setonji David who represents Badagry Constituency Two in the Lagos State House of Assembly made this known during an interview on TV earlier today.

Setonji said that Lagos state needs money for development, adding that the state does not enjoy a special status for contributing more than half of the revenue from VAT.

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal will on Thursday hear an application by the Lagos State Government to join the VAT dispute between Rivers State and the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
