Violence erupts, as truck crushes 8 students at Ojodu, Lagos

Violence has erupted around the Ogba area of Lagos, after a truck driver crushed at least eight students around Grammar School Bus-Stop.

An eyewitness told Lasgidi FM News Desk on telephone that the truck driver tried to run away but he was stopped after a hot chase by some concerned members of the public.

However; our source said the situation worsened as the people turned their anger against law enforcement agencies.

He said a nearby police station and the office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, were attacked by the angry crowd.

The eyewitness said he also counted several vehicles that were vandalized and looted by criminals who joined the angry crowd.

Lasgidi FM New Desk called the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, to verify the incident, and he confirmed the truck had a break failure and rammed into the school children.

The LASTMA Boss denied claims in some reports that the truck was being chased by LASTMA officials, adding that hoodlums took advantage of the incident to cause violence.

The Ogba Zonal Head of LASTMA, Mabunmi Adesola, who also spoke with Lasgidi FM News Desk, said she was in her office when she heard about the accident.
